From complex craftsmanship to digital simplicity at Drivelodge

Project background
Founded as a passion project by enthusiasts David and Joanne, Drivelodge has built on its reputation for crafting high-quality high-top and elevating camper van roofs to become a 30-strong team of designers and engineers serving a nationwide customer base.

But as their product range expanded to cover hundreds of van models, and their network of partners spread throughout the UK, their existing website struggled to keep pace – making it hard for prospective buyers to find relevant products or locate their nearest fitter.

Managing director James came to Phunk for help, looking to bring Drivelodge’s digital presence up to the same standards of craftsmanship and user-friendly design as the high-quality products they are known for.

Serving customers who truly care about the details.

For vanlifers and campers, their vehicle is a labour of love, customised to their individual needs and personality. Every change they make or feature they add is carefully planned and thought through. To enable customers to visualise the end result of a Drivelodge roof conversion, we centred the new website around an interactive configurator, allowing visitors to see how different roof styles, colours and accessories would look on their specific van model.

Bringing clarity and focus to a comprehensive offering.

With over a hundred possible base van models, a wide range of roofs and accessories, and a nationwide network of fitters, Drivelodge has a solution for every customer – as long as they can find it. We cut through the complexity with a highly visual, easy-to-filter search interface and large-format interactive map to ensure visitors can zero in on the product or service options relevant to them in just a few clicks or taps.

Boosting performance through multi-function optimisation.

As an ambitious firm with growth in mind, Drivelodge needed the new site to perform as well as it looked. That required line-by-line and image-by-image optimisation to trim loading times and ensure a seamless visitor experience. It called for meticulous content planning and SEO tweaks to keep traffic flowing in. And it meant exhaustive UX design and testing to simplify user journeys and maximise conversions.

Visual-first logic to bring the brand to life.

Aesthetics are key for any van owner considering a conversion, so we prioritised the visual elements of the design – both to inspire visitors with the possibilities available and to guide them smoothly through the site content.

Our design team blended high-quality photography with custom product visuals and professionally produced video to truly communicate the craftsmanship and quality Drivelodge offers.

Mobile-centred design for users on the go.

When your customer base spends as much of its time as possible on the road, your website’s mobile experience is business-critical.

We took each key element of the desktop site – vehicle configurator, product search, “find a fitter” – and redesigned it from the ground up to look great on a smaller screen and run smoothly without wasting data.
